BE STILL

Psalm 46

Ever tell somebody to try and go to sleep?
Or maybe try to relax?
Have you ever said to someone, “I've been trying to sleep all night but I'm still awake.”
With sleeping or relaxing, I must quote Yoda in the movie, “The Empire Strikes Back,”
“No try.” “Do or not do.”
Trying wipes out the effect of sleep and relaxation.

10 "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

The Psalmist gets it. He did not say try to be still, he said to be still.
It's sometimes called letting go.
Like letting go of this problem or that.
Releasing our burdens because God's yoke is easy.

1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Selah

Thank heaven for that.
I don't care what anyone says, or how strong they claim to be, we all need a place of refuge.
Someplace where we can let down our guard and let someone else provide the strength.
A place where we can feel safe, not where we try to be safe.

6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire.

So relax. Take a deep breathe and be still. God is in control.

Do, or not do.
There is no try.
